WHAT IS TRICHOLOGY

Trichology is the scientific study of the hair and scalp in regards to its disorders and diseases. Trichology was founded in London, England in 1902, which established the Institute of Trichology.

A Trichologist specializes in all hair and scalp conditions. A Trichologist will diagnose and treat hair loss, scalp disorders, hair breakage and clogged follicles. Trichologists are trained to understand hormonal imbalances to determine what treatments are necessary and when it is necessary to see a dermatologist or a physician for further test and/or treatments

WHEN SHOULD YOU SEE A TRICHOLOGIST

If you have sudden excessive hair loss or a bald patch which recently appeared, a Trichologist can help you with your hair and scalp problems. If there is itching, dry scalp and excessive scaling of the scalp, a certified Trichologist has had intensive training for all scalp, chemical damage and hair issues. If you notice changes with thinning hair don’t wait, immediately seek a professional to find out what type of hair loss you have.

WHEN SHOULD YOU SEE A DERMATOLOGIST

Yes, it is important to work with dermatologists who specialize in hair loss. Dermatologists treat skin and tissue problems, many do not specialize in hair loss. If required we will recommend you to a dermatologist in order to bridge treatments. If you have excessive auto-immune issues that have flared up intensely, a dermatologist is an option to help you get your issues under-control. However, a Trichologist can work with a dermatologist using a microscopic analysis to assist with balancing the hair and scalp with the correct treatments such as hair laser, scalp exfoliation, shampoos and the hair styles that will help stimulate healthier hair to growth.

INITIAL VISIT WITH TRICHOLOGIST

A full assessment will be made through examining the scalp with a magnifying lamp and a 50-100x microscope to assess follicle, scalp, and hair shaft. A case history of the possible cause of the hair loss around diet, stress and lifestyle will be reviewed. A urine sample and Iridology assessment may be required depending on type of hair loss to get to the root cause. Please bring latest blood work to ascertain any deficiencies. Various protocols and procedures are unique for each client. A Trichologist will determine the best treatment that involves genetic hair loss vs. non-genetic hair loss. A referral to a medical professional will be made if necessary.

Laser

If you are experiencing hair loss you are probably familiar with the vast amount of hair loss treatments out on the market claiming to regrow your hair. Some treatments can help restore hair loss while others have harmful side effects or ingredients that irritate the scalp causing dandruff, dry scalp, or allergic reactions. Laser treatments provide a solution for hair loss that is drug free that actually regrows hair without all the harmful side effects.
Low level laser therapy has become popular in medical offices, hair restoration clinics, and hair salons to help promote hair growth for people experiencing hair loss.
